Do any California cities still offer a gender ratio of two women for every man?
How about online dating? What dating sites give men the best gender odds for finding a date?
Surf City
In the song, Jan and Dean described a magical place:

Two girls for every boy.
Best of all, men didn’t even need one-liners:

Before you start waxing your surfboard or speed-dialing your travel agent, let’s take a look at Census 2000 population statistics.
What’s That Sound?
It’s the sound of Census 2000 data crushing the dreams of lonely men who just booked flights to the Golden State.
Depending on who you ask, Surf City is either:
- Huntington Beach, California
- Santa Cruz, California
Both cities are surfing paradises but neither comes close to a gender ratio of two women for every man. According to Census 2000 population statistics, the reality is closer to 1.01 and 1.02 women per man, respectively.
In California, the city that comes closest is Hemet with about 1.25 women per man. Nationwide? It’s Macon, Georgia (about 1.37 women per man). Note: We only considered places with a population of 50,000 or more.
The reality: There is probably no city in these United States where you’ll find a Surf City gender ratio of “two girls for every boy.”

Luckily for the men who just had their dreams dashed by Census data, dating site demographics offer some hope.

- a woman on each arm
- a threesome (one man in bed with two women)
It’s going to take a lot more than just gender ratio to get a woman on each arm.
A threesome? Forget about it. Short of divine intervention, it’s not going to happen.
